In Vino Veritas

Went on a drinking night last night with my friends from work and since I don’t drink alcohol, I ended up chauffeuring people to and from the party place.

It’s a solid 45min drive and I really enjoy the 1-on-1 time spent in the car. Being a woman and having mostly male co-workers, I have to be extra careful with them so that my friendliness does not come off as a come-on or any other type of flirting. I’ve been doing OK for years and I’ve developed some pretty solid bonds with some male coworkers. Some of them are in long term committed relationships (doing time lol) and I know I’m not gonna have any issues with them trying to hit on me while drunk.

This brings us back to what happened last night.  Had three guys in the car, all pretty drunk and cheery! When the nicest thing happened. One guy in the back made me laugh with a pretty good accent impersonation of a Scouse (Liverpool person) and I heard the best thing ever (still smiling now)

“You know, dude, Ferk here is amazing! I have soooo much respect for her. I have never listened to anyone’s opinions before but when she talks, I listen. Cause she knows her shit and I respect people who know their shit. They got it all together! *chuckle* “

“a drunken mind, speaks a sober soul”

This really tickled me and I’ll tell you why: drunk people have lower inhibitions and the drunker they are, the more truth spills out (albeit slightly slurred). They can’t censor anything. And being freaking respected in my own car by one very drunk co-worker made me feel really proud and happy.

According to Bruce Bartholow, author of “Alcohol Effects on Performance Monitoring and Adjustment: Affect Modulation and Impairment of Evaluative Cognitive Control,” alcohol doesn’t make you behave badly, it just makes you care less.

I know it might not sound like a lot to other people but I feel like I’ve found my tribe.
